Hurricane season is getting worse across the Caribbean. Small islands are becoming more vulnerable as the years go by and the Climate Crisis gets worse. Hurricane Beryl (Jamaica 2024) was so powerful and destructive but Hurricane Melissa has been catastrophic. Tearing through Jamaica, Cuba and islands like Haiti, leaving weak and in some places non-existent, medical, educational and social systems that those nations rely on to survive.
We have been focused on raising the alarm of climate injustice, ecological breakdown and the role of colonialism in all of this for years and will continue to do so through our research and open-education models. We want to continue to hold hope for a collective future that safeguards the botanical, communal and land cultures of Caribbean peoples, and direct our work towards this.
Help us raise funds to support direct relief and rebuilding in Jamaica, as well as to develop education and conservation modes to support land and cultural sovereignty.
Where the funds are going:
50% of funds will be allocated to Jamaican organisations and initiatives.
Our focus is:
- Environmental and agricultural initiatives
- Schools/Education projects or organisations
- Farms +/ Animal Shelters
- Safety for Women and Girls
50% of funds raised will be allocated to continuing our research, education and publishing efforts on the impacts of the climate crisis on Caribbean nations.
Please bear with us as we actively work to identify groups with your support. They will be announced publicly as they are identified, verified and partnerships established.
UPDATE:
The first organisation we’ve identified to donate funds we raise to is Jamaica Basic (Primary) Schools Foundation. A 30 year old organisation based in The Jamaica High Commission office in London, that supports the direct building and development of primary schools across every parish in Jamaica.
